Prof. Dr. Wachyu Sundayana, M.A.
Head of UPI Language Center
Prof. Wachyu Sundayana graduated from the English Education Department of IKIP Bandung (now UPI Bandung) in 1983 and earned his Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Iowa in 1996. He earned his doctoral degree in the field of curriculum development from the School of Graduate Studies of the Indonesia University of Education (UPI) Bandung in 2009. In addition to being the head of UPI Language Center, a position he has held since 2011, Prof. Wachyu Sundayana is currently a lecturer at the English Language Education Study Program of the School of Graduate Studies of UPI.
Prof. Sundayana is a prominent curriculum development expert and prolific textbook writer. He has written English textbooks for junior high school, senior high school, and vocational school levels. He is also a member of Teacher Education Curriculum Development Team of the Ministry of Research and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia and a member of UPI Curriculum Development Team, and has helped a number of universities develop their curriculum.
Eri Kurniawan, M.A., Ph.D.
Secretary of UPI Language Center
Eri Kurniawan, M.A., Ph.D. graduated from the English Language and Literature Education Department Indonesia University of Education (UPI) in 2004, and earned his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Linguistics from the University of Iowa in 2009 and 2013 respectively. His field of expertise is grammar, particularly that of English, Indonesian, and Sundanese, which he has extensively researched both for his doctoral dissertation and post-doctoral works. While pursuing his doctoral degree, Eri Kurniawan was also a teaching and research assistant at the Linguistics Department and English as a Second Language Program of Iowa University.
He is currently a lecturer at the English Education Department (both at the undergraduate and graduate levels) and the secretary of UPI Language Center, the position he has held since 2015.
Andrian Permadi, M.Pd.
Head of Language Training Division
Andrian Permadi completed his Bachelor’s degree in 2008 and Master’s Degree in 2014 at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia. Andrian has been Head of Language Training Division since 2010 whose main responsibility is to manage various language training programs, specifically tailored English courses held in cooperation with various ministries, government institutions, private companies and many others. Andrian has taught different kinds of courses since he joined UPI Language Center in 2008. IELTS Preparation, IBT / ITP TOEFL Preparation, and TOEIC Preparation are his forte.
But he has also taught other courses such as English for Academic Purposes, General English, etc. His research interests and publications lie in the areas of TESOL and Language Testing. Andrian is also a certified ISO Internal Auditor and has been holding the position as the Quality Management Representative (QMR) for UPI Language Center’s ISO Quality Management System for more or less 7 years.
Ari Danuwijaya, M.Ed., G.Cert.Ed.
Head of Language Testing Division
Ari Arifin Danuwijaya is the head of Language Testing Division of UPI Language Center. He is also a lecturer at the English Education Study Program. He completed his Master’s degree in Educational Research, Assessment, and Evaluation from Flinders University, South Australia in 2012. He attended a short term award program in Educational Assessment: National Examination and Computer-based Testing hosted by Australia Awards Indonesia and The University of Adelaide in 2017 and obtained a Graduate Certificate in Education. He earned his bachelor degree in English Education from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) in 2008.
Currently, he teaches at English Education Department, specializing in English Language Teaching and Learning, and serves as a member of editorial board of Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics (IJAL). Some of his major interests are language assessment, language teaching methodology, and educational measurement.
Lukman Hakim, M.Pd.
Head of General Affairs Division
Lukman Hakim graduated from English Education Study Program of UPI in 2011 an earned his master’s degree from the same program in 2016 As the Head of General Affairs Division and Coordinator of Academic Publication, Lukman is, among others, the person behind the publication of the Indonesian Journal of Applied Linguistics (IJAL) – a Q2 Scopus-indexed and nationally accredited journal – and the maintenance of its website. He also administratively helps its editorial board in the reviewing and editing process of the submitted articles.
Lukman has worked for UPI Language Center for seven years, first as an English instructor teaching various courses, then as French language course coordinator and caretaker of the Language Testing Division before holding his current position. His main research interests are in EFL methodology and language learning strategies.
