ENGLISH FOR YOUNG LEARNERS (EYL)
English for Young Learners (EYL) is a program that is specifically designed for young children (aged 6 to 12 or elementary school pupils) to help them learn English the young learner-friendly and fun way. EYL uses a wholistic approach and various interesting media to help children develop their communicative skills in English. Eight levels are offered in this program, namely:
| Elementary
1&2 |
Elementary 1 & 2 train the children’s receptive skills (listening and reading) and develop their vocabulary in order to enable them to respond appropriately to questions, requests and request given in English. |
| Pre-Intermediate
1&2 |
Pre-Intermediate 1 & 2 expand the children’s receptive skills while at the same time develop their productive skills (speaking and writing) using the vocabulary they have learned and grow their literacy skills. |
| Intermediate
1&2 |
Intermediate 1 & 2 are focused on developing the children’s responses and skills in initiating a conversation. The children also begin to learn complex literacy skills such as reading and understanding stories and reading and writing descriptions. |
| Upper-Intermediate
1&2 |
At this level, the types of learning activities are becoming more complex and comprehensive. For example, the children begin to learn to conduct an observation and present their findings. |
- Each level in the EYL program is taught in 24 sessions of l 00 minutes each (2400 minutes or 40 hours per level).
